Personality: “Freedom is the right of every sentient being”.
Optimus's motto from his original toy packaging says it all. Noble, self sacrificing to a fault, Optimus Prime embodies the very concept of selfless leadership from the front. The sort of leader who'd never ask a subordinate to do anything he wouldn't be willing to do himself. A leader who inspires absolute loyalty in his allies, the definitive 'father to his men'.
He's wise and compassionate, placing the lives of others above his own at all times, and is always the first to stand up for the weak. It's for this reason that he leads his Autobots against the Decepticons, hellbent on plundering energy and resources for their own domination of the universe. He's not above making mistakes, but even then is big enough to humbly accept that “sometimes even the wisest of men and machines can be in error.” He's also forgiving of the mistakes of those around him, even in extreme cases such as the Dinobots temporarily turning against him due to Megatron's trickery.
Even as the young bot Orion Pax he showed promise, ultimately prompting Alpha Trion to not only rebuild him after sustaining heavy damage, but also bestow upon him the Autobot Matrix of Leadership, which itself grants it's power and wisdom only to those deemed worthy, and Optimus Prime is indeed the one most worthy.

Rockstar Persona: Under brainwashing, he'll revert to his Orion Pax persona, a youthful and naive blue-collar type with starry eyes aspirations of glory. While he'll maintain something of a moral compass, it won't be nearly as polished or wizened as his normal self. Much less the hardened military leader, much more the wide-eyed boyscout. Or, in more simple terms, Elvis at the beginning of his career.
Ideal CR: A team (band) to lead, a strong rival to battle (of the bands?)
